The IPCC’s sixth report reminds us that global warming is causing sea levels to rise, coastlines to recede and increased threats to coastal areas. Within the scope of the Interreg Marittimo programme, large sections of the Mediterranean coastline are directly affected, with potentially major impacts on the local economy.<\/strong><\/p>

The TRATT’Eau project responds to the need for a joint approach to engage stakeholders in Mediterranean coastal areas in strategies to<\/b> relocate economic activities threatened by the risk of flooding.<\/b><\/p>

An integrated approach to building sustainable economic resilience,<\/b> deployed across four pilot areas: Nice (France), Bastia (France), La Spezia (Italy) and Massa-Carrara (Italy).<\/p>

Axis 1 – Measuring, spatialising and identifying economic and territorial threats in areas experiencing decline<\/strong><\/h3>

Led by the CCI Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur<\/b><\/a>, this first component aims to identify and quantify the direct and indirect economic threats<\/b> to coastal areas exposed to coastal erosion.<\/p>

Dynamic flood mapping<\/b> will be developed based on different climate scenarios (for 2040, 2070 and 2100<\/b>) in order to visualise potentially submerged areas and assess their impact on local businesses. These data will be used to develop an economic analysis methodology<\/b> capable of estimating potential losses, identifying the most vulnerable sectors and measuring the effects on employment \u2014 an approach that can be replicated in other European territories.<\/p>

To raise awareness, an interactive web narrative<\/b> will present the challenges of coastal erosion and its consequences for economic actors and the general public in an educational manner.<\/p>

Finally, this component includes a concrete technological investment<\/b> with the installation of a tide gauge<\/b> to measure sea level variations in real time and enrich the predictive models developed as part of the project.<\/p>

Axis 2 \u2013 Quantifying socio-economic impact, anticipating and supporting relocation<\/b><\/h3>

This second component, led by the municipalities of La Spezia <\/b>and the Province of Massa-Carrara<\/b> in close collaboration with the Urban Planning Department of the Nice C\u00f4te d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry<\/b>, focuses on assessing the capacity to mobilise land for economic activities<\/b> in order to support the relocation of businesses exposed<\/b> to coastal erosion.<\/p>

The objective is twofold: to identify the economic activities most threatened by rising sea levels and to identify opportunities for relocation to less vulnerable sites. To this end, an economic land observatory<\/b> will be set up to identify available land resources and areas likely to accommodate new developments.<\/p>

At the same time, the project will work on developing a long-term land strategy<\/b>, in partnership with local authorities and the State, in order to integrate these issues into planning and urban development documents.<\/p>

Awareness-raising workshops<\/b> will bring together public and private stakeholders to discuss these issues, promoting a concerted and operational approach. Finally, a territorial commitment charter<\/b> will be proposed for signature by the partners in order to anchor this collective dynamic in the long term and strengthen the economic resilience of coastal areas.<\/p>

Axis 3 \u2013 Risk information and adaptation of public adaptation and mitigation policies<\/strong><\/h3>

The third component of the TRATT\u2019Eau<\/b> project focuses on raising awareness and supporting public decision-makers<\/b> in the face of coastal retreat issues. The objective is to transform climate awareness into concrete and shared actions<\/b> at the regional level.<\/p>

Led by AVITEM<\/b>, this component is based on a process of co-creating practical tools<\/b> with local authorities, institutions and public actors. These tools aim to facilitate understanding of the risks, identify barriers and levers for action<\/b>, and encourage the integration of coastal erosion into local planning and development policies<\/b>.<\/p>

The approach favours education and cooperation<\/b> in order to raise awareness without causing alarm and to involve decision-makers in a sustainable and reasoned adaptation process. Accessible communication materials<\/b> and forums for discussion will help to mobilise collective intelligence, strengthen risk culture and promote the emergence of more resilient public policies<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The project in brief<\/strong><\/h2>

Faced with rising sea levels and coastal erosion linked to the effects of climate change, TRATT\u2019Eau assesses the risks of flooding that threaten economic activities on the Mediterranean coast and supports their relocation.<\/b><\/p>

The project designs mapping, analysis, land use planning and awareness-raising tools to strengthen the resilience of coastal areas. The result of a Franco-Italian partnership, it offers a structured approach to inform public decision-making and promote sustainable adaptation of coastal areas.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
