Moving forward together towards more responsible tourism.<\/strong><\/p><h2>Our mission<\/h2><p>The First Mile project uses the power of behavioural science to help <b>small and medium-sized enterprises<\/b> <b>in the tourism sector<\/b> adopt more environmentally friendly practices.<\/p><p>By drawing on our understanding of <b>human behaviour<\/b>, we design <b>concrete, low-cost solutions<\/b> that promote immediate and lasting change.<\/p><h2>How do we achieve this?<\/h2><p>The First Mile project <a href=\"https:\/\/firstmileproject.eu\/our-participants\/\"><b>supports 80 SMEs<\/b><\/a> in <b>France, Norway, Italy and Slovenia<\/b>. These businesses will be able to experiment with innovative behavioural tactics, test new solutions and see the direct benefits.<\/p><p>These first steps should create a ripple effect, inspiring other players in the tourism industry to follow suit.<\/p><h2>Behavioural science and tourism<\/h2><p><a href=\"https:\/\/avitem.fr\/en\/sciences-comportementales-et-tourisme-durable-retour-aux-faits-avec-first-mile\"><strong>Behavioural science can help remove barriers<\/strong><\/a> to change and encourage behavioural change, particularly during holidays, when our commitment to the environment tends to diminish in favour of rest and relaxation. These gentle, incentive-based methods are non-coercive and contribute to a conscious ecological transition.<\/p><h3>Our principles of action: every action counts<\/h3><ul><li><b>Facilitate sustainable choices to make them natural:<\/b> reduce the effort required to adopt eco-friendly actions so that they become spontaneous.<\/li><li><b>Provide information at the right time<\/b>: provide clear guidelines when making decisions, raise awareness to encourage responsible choices.<\/li><li><b>Make sustainable choices the default option<\/b>: make the right decision automatic, without any extra effort.<\/li><li><b>Promote sustainable solutions<\/b>: to make them the most attractive option.<\/li><li><b>Create a new social norm<\/b>: encourage responsible behaviour through the power of example and community.<\/li><\/ul><h3>First Mile tactics<\/h3><p>Our solutions target <b>eight priorities<\/b> that promote: reducing carbon footprints, limiting environmental impact, promoting sustainable tourism practices \u2013 improving waste management, reducing single-use plastics, reducing water consumption, reducing food waste, promoting local food, improving visitor flow management, reducing project concluded with a final event in Bologna, bringing together tourism SMEs, researchers, public authorities, and European networks around a shared goal: making sustainability concrete,
