project<\/a><\/strong> officially comes to an end with the publication of a <a href=\"https:\/\/avitem.fr\/first-mile-project-practices-compendium\"><strong>Compendium of Sustainable Tourism Practices and a Toolbox<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0both designed for tourism SMEs.<\/p><p>This publication follows the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/avitem.fr\/en\/first-mile-project-final-event-in-bologna\">final FIRST MILE project event held in Bologna<\/a><\/strong>, where the 80 SMEs and project partners from across Europe came together to proudly celebrate the results achieved, as well as the remarkable commitment of the participating companies, many of which went well beyond the initial expectations.<\/p><h2>A catalogue of inspiring practices for your tourism projects<\/h2><p><strong>30 simple, practical and easy-to-share behavioural tactics<\/strong> and <strong>a comprehensive guide<\/strong> to implement them, to advance sustainable tourism and move concretely from intention to action.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/avitem.fr\/first-mile-project-practices-compendium\"><strong>FIRST MILE Practices Compendium and Toolbox<\/strong><\/a> presents low-cost solutions tested by more than 80 companies in Norway, Slovenia, Italy and France, and validated by both customers and tourism professionals.<\/p><p>These <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/avitem.fr\/en\/sciences-comportementales-et-tourisme-durable-retour-aux-faits-avec-first-mile\">actions grounded in behavioural science<\/a><\/strong> (<em>nudges<\/em>) are embedded in everyday practices to positively and subtly transform habits, helping us move together towards the ecological transition.<\/p><h3>What tangible benefits for businesses?<\/h3><ul><li><strong>Cost were identified through a performance monitoring and evaluation framework, as well as through knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer support.<br \/>The Compendium was developed in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opentourismelab.com\/\"><strong>Open Tourisme Lab<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><p>It highlights the project\u2019s main results, shares key lessons learned, and presents <strong>replicable medium-sized enterprises play a crucial role in the European Union\u2019s tourism sector.<\/p><p>In 2022, SMEs accounted for <strong data-start=\"2894\" data-end=\"2933\">76% of tourism employment in the EU<\/strong>, with variations across countries, ranging from 62% in France to 90% in Slovenia and Greece.<\/p><p>Tourism has a critical role to play in the global carbon emissions trajectory.\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Travel and tourism currently account for about<strong> 8,8% of global greenhouse gas emissions (2019)<\/strong>; representing a doubling of tourism-related emissions since 2009. When considering climate impact rather than just emissions, the effect is even more significant.<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tourism emissions are also associated with alarming distributional inequalities.
