Building a network of soft mobility and pedestrian paths, integrating urban design interventions and nature based-solustion providing thermal comfort, Cool Noons contribute to create cooler, more livable cities.
Mappping of new touristic routes and practices
Join a visit with the partners of the Cool Noons european project in Lisbon, guided by the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Direção Municipal do Ambiente, Estrutura Verde, Clima e Energia – Departamento de Ambiente, Energia e Alterações Climáticas – Divisão do Ambiente e Energia.
Explore the COOL PATH connecting the Eduardo VII Park to the Monsanto Forest Park
A route where nature-based solutions provide thermal comfort while supporting biodiversity and soil restoration within the city.
Blue and green solutions along the way:
- The 26 hectares of the Eduardo VII Park and the Estufa Fria greenhouses with its luxuriant collection of exotic plant species
- A green corridor sheltering a rich Portuguese endemic flora and wild fauna, free pastures for insects and pollinators
- Temperature sensors highliting a drop from 30-40°C in sunny areas to 21°C in the urban forest of Monsanto, the largest green area in Lisbon
Discover the COOL PATH through the Alvalade authentic residentiel neighbourhood
A journey through 1950s urban planning inspiring current urban design solutions, with micro-scale landscape interventions to mitigate urban heat and provide sensorial beauty, and enhance quality of life for all.
An example of sustainable urban development in action with:
- A safe and joyful pedestrian circulation through green alleys, jasmin trees and orange trees in public private spaces interactions
- A 15-minutes city, cultural equipments, schools, and local marketplaces at hand
- Toward a circular urban system: enabling sustainable services (waste and water management, etc.)

Cool paths for thermal comfort in Mediterranean cities
On March 31st and April 1st, 2025, the partners of the Cool Noons project gathered in Lisbon for a co-production exercise about urban heat and sustainable tourism, as part of the project’s steering committee.
An event organised by AVITEM and the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa with the invaluable support and contribution of the Direção Municipal do Ambiente, Estrutura Verde, Clima e Energia – Departamento de Ambiente, Energia e Alterações Climáticas – Divisão do Ambiente e Energia.
A leverage project on climate adaptation and sustainable tourism
With heatwaves expected to increase by 50% by 2050, it is urgent to adapt touristic cities to the changing climate and evolving needs of both visitors and communities.
Cool Noons is a concrete initiative, uniting a strong partnership to test and implement urban cooling solutions, fostering synergies and complementary approaches to combat urban overheating effectively.
A project embedded in a larger reflection on how to mitigate heatwave effects and make our Mediterranean cities more livable:
- Integrating cooling strategies into urban and tourism planning
- Raising awareness about cooling solutions – green city, blue city, vegetation
- Scaling up from micro-experiments to city-wide strategies
- Engaging public authorities, private actors and citizens through a new governance ecosystem
- Supporting environmentally responsible tourism in Mediterranean coastal cities
