Ecological Transition of Economies

Faced with an unprecedented ecological emergency, the transition towards sustainable economic models is essential. AVITEM is working to support this transformation in two key sectors: tourism and the circular economy, in order to decarbonise economic activities and reduce their environmental footprint.

The Mediterranean, which welcomed 650 million visitors in 2025, is a major tourist destination, but also one of the regions most exposed to climate disruption. As the global leader in ecotourism with a 39% market share, Europe must now combine attractiveness with the preservation of its ecosystems to safeguard its economic model.

At the same time, the repair sector in Europe is showing encouraging signs: €16 billion in turnover and 520,000 jobs created in 2026, proving the growth of the circular economy. However, food waste remains a major challenge: 62 million tonnes of waste (132 kg per capita), costing €135 billion and accounting for 17% of the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions.
