Official launch of the WaterAdapt project in Marseille

Across Europe, regions are facing increasing challenges related to water: floods, droughts, coastal erosion, soil salinisation. Faced with these threats, a common priority is needed: to adapt, together.

On 19 September 2025, in Marseille, the launch of the WaterAdapt project marks the birth of a new community of practice, uniting regions and local actors to strengthen the resilience of European territories. From coastal areas to river basins, from islands to large deltas, WaterAdapt aims to pool energies, share expertise and accelerate the implementation of concrete actions.

Supported by the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), the project brings together partners from France, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Albania around a common ambition:

  • Support local and regional authorities in improving planning instruments
  • Explore nature-based and sustainable adaptation solutions
  • Share best practices and test pilot actions tailored to the priorities of each territory
  • Transform lessons learned into public policies and concrete financing levers

By pooling their expertise and resources, the project partners aim to make WaterAdapt a catalyst for innovation and
European cooperation in the face of water-related climate challenges.
