Official visit of President Muselier and AVITEM mission for the Bourj Hammoud 2021-2031 project: Together for a better present and future.

AVITEM supports the Municipality of Bourj Hammoud, in the suburbs of Beirut, in the design of an integrated Strategic Urban Renewal Plan, built in a collective and participatory manner. It is thus a question of combining planning for the future with responses to the emergencies of the present in a crisis context. This decentralized cooperation project is supported by the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, the City of Marseille, the Le Havre Seine Metropolis and the Saint Julien Chapteuil commune. It also benefits from the expertise of the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese University and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris Belleville.

As part of his official visit to Lebanon, the President of the South Region – Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, Renaud MUSELIER, met the Mayor of Bourj Hammoud and the elected officials of the Municipal Council. He reminded us that, more than ever, the context of crisis and scarcity of resources requires a common vision and coordinated responses from all the actors in the territory.

During their week-long mission, the Municipality of Bourj Hammoud and AVITeM also worked with the United Nations agencies mobilized in Bourj Hammoud to advance the construction of a coherent framework for the development of this territory. Its four priority commitments are renewable energy production, downtown rehabilitation, sustainable waste management and city renaturation.
